Mental Health & ADHD
At Mackoul Pediatrics, we strongly believe that a child’s mental health is just as important as his or her physical health. Our Pediatric Care Providers offer kind, experienced, and compassionate care to children and parents of children dealing with ADHD, anxiety, depression, anorexia, bipolar disorder, and other mental and emotional health concerns.Â
Children’s mental health and behavior shape learning, relationships, and  daily life in general. On this page, we explain frequently expressed parental concerns, practical strategies that parents can use.
What to do if you think your child may be exhibiting symptoms
1. Start by tracking behavior triggers, the frequency of outbursts or misbehavior, and how these problems are affecting your child’s school performance, eating habits, healthy sleeping, friendships, and other aspects of life in general.
2. Use consistent daily routines, make your expectations clear, and use positive reinforcement when your child displays desired behavior and actions.Â
3. Break tasks into smaller steps and use visual schedules for younger children. For sleep issues, adjust bedtime routines and reduce screentime before bed.
Behavior & Emotional Challenges in Children and Teens
Behavioral and emotional problems in children can range from normal worries and common sleep‑related outbursts or irritability to persistent increased anxiety, depression, anorexia, bipolar disorder, ADHD, OCD, ODD, and other such mental and emotional health regulation disorders that may be leading to your child’s disruptive behavior.Â
Early and accurate recognition of your child’s symptoms and getting an official medical diagnosis is crucial in order to implement the appropriate intervention strategies as early as possible.
