Sports Physicals

At Mackoul Pediatrics, we are excited to help your child stay active, healthy, and fit by participating in sports and other high-energy physical activities. A sports physical, or a pre-participation physical exam,  is an important step to make sure that your child is ready to play safely.

These visits are more focused than a regular well-child check. We take time to evaluate your child’s overall health with sports and physical activity in mind.

What to Expect at your Child's Sports Physical:

  • We will review your child’s medical history, including any past injuries, illnesses, or family health concerns.

  • We will perform a thorough physical exam, checking the heart, lungs, joints, flexibility, and strength.

  • We will assess vision and hearing

  • We will discuss any symptoms that may affect safe participation in sports, such as chest pain, breathing issues, dizziness, and others.

  • We will review all current medications and assess any special health needs.

  • We will answer any questions that you or your child may have and provide relevant educational material

  • Make a professional, evidence-based determination if it is safe for your child to participate in sports at this time.

Why Sports Physicals Matter

Sports physicals help identify conditions that could potentially become serious or get exacerbated  during physical activity.

Sports physicals also give you and your child peace of mind knowing that they are ready and safely cleared to play sports or engage in other high intensity physical activity without any potential health risks due to unidentified underlying conditions.

Many schools and sports leagues require that students get a current sports physical before the season begins.

At Mackoul Pediatrics, we offer:

  • Complete, detailed, and thorough sports physical evaluations.

  • Clear communication with parents about any findings.

  • Guidance on injury prevention and safe return to play.

  • Care coordination with specialists if further evaluation is needed.

  • A supportive and kind experience in which your child or teen feels safe and free to ask questions.
